Why Dance?
Develops feminine, curvey, muscle definition - not bulk.
Why strain your neck & back doing boring, painful crunches, when you can joyously achieve far superior abdominal strength through Latin dancing?
Work-out with sexy latin rhythms where the only impact is in the new way you walk, talk, & feel.
Salsa
The world's favourite. Falling under the genre of Street Latin and born in Cuba.
It moves fast, with hundreds of leadable step patterns. Like all Latin dances, Salsa
is sensual movement, danced with a partner to exciting drum rhythms, the
coolest piano, and brass. It's as social as social dance gets! Except maybe for ...
Merengue
The other favourite Street Latin dance, and the easiest to learn! From the Caribbean,
it has a happy yet sensual feel, and its even tempo lends itself to modern dance music, so
you can take it to the night clubs with you! This one was too saucy for the Aristocrats
of the 1500's and banned from Social Ballrooms, thus the term "Street Latin"!
DanceSport Latin
Once upon a time, the English took Latino rhythym and dance and made them their own
with structured step patterns and 'poise'. Today, they possess all the sensuality of
their catalysts, and with a knowledge of these dances you can burn the floor to almost
any music. They are Samba, Cha Cha, Rumba, and Jive. Paso Doble's fun but not social.
Ballroom
What can I say... Ballroom can inspire as much if not more emotion than Salsa, and much more
intimacy, often danced to the greatest love songs (big beautiful genre) of
our time.
It is less of a spectator sport than Latin, but in the feeling, stamina, skill, and
oneness of being, it is truely the ultimate dance style. Be prepared to expend some
energy learning to dance Ballroom as it should be danced - well.
The Ballroom dances are Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep,Tango & Viennese Waltz.
Rock 'n' Roll
Take a flash back to the past with Rock'n'Roll music and dancing,
or stay in the present and dance it to your favourite Rock & Blues bands. Rock'n'Roll is easy to learn, danced fast or slow, and just as popular as ever!
Swing & Jive
Swing, Jive, and Lindy Hop share similarities too close to ignore, but the music
dictates the feel and step patterns which set them apart.
From 1930's Jazz & Big Band to modern Jazz, Blues, and RnB, the Swing dances
have always enjoyed a huge following. Lindy is my fave, first danced by black
New Orleans at the Savoy. It was dubbed Jitterbug by white society, named
after the third stage of siphilis when it is said you "get the jitters"!
Lindy Hop is the mother of all the Swing dances, but was itself influenced by
Boogie Woogie and Charleston.
